Salam tcer, I'd asked about other schools marks. SIS tcers gave their students 40 and above for paper2. N tcer Zila also gave  high marks for paper 2 coz even the student got only 34 over 40, she can get A. Im a bit not satisfied with our marks.Huhu. Sorry tcer. Just disappointed cuz only English didn't get A.

P/S: Lesson learnt: hoping this will be the first and last i'm teaching the first class. ever.....

  1. This section appears in Section C Paper 1 of the PMR examination paper. It tests students' command of the language.
  2. There are six questionson phrasal verbs and idiomatic expression. The types of idiomatic expressions tested include idioms and proverbs.
  3. There are two sets of dialogues or  short texts given. Students are required to figure out the meaning of the expression.
  4.  Each dialogue is followed by a set of 3-4options for each underlined expression. Students are required to choose the meaning that best fits each of the underlined expressions.
TIPS AND TECHNIQUES

  1. Read the conversation carefully and try to understand the situation. Pay special attention to the underlined expressions.
  2.  The important points to note are:
·         the topic of the conversation
·         the people  of the conversation
·         the relationship between the speakers
·         the context of the conversation
i.                    the speakers’ past action
ii.                  the speakers’ future action

  1. Look at the options and choose the best one.
  2. You can start by eliminating the options that are clearly wrong.
  3. You must remember that some expression have underlying meanings. They are not as straightforward as they seem. For example:
Azizah: Don’t lose heart. You can try out for the championships again next year.
In this context, the expression ‘lose heart’ is an idiom. It means to feel discouraged to lose motivation.
  1. If you find it difficult to understand the expressions, look for clues in:
·         the topic of the conversation
·         the context of the conversation
·         the lines before and after the underlined expressions
  1. Once you have chosen an answer, check if it is correct by replacing the underlined expression with the chosen answer. Make sure that the conversation makes sense.

Writing a composition or an essay is an important skill, not only for the PMR English Language Examination, but also for the future. For most of my students out there, writing a composition is perhaps the most difficult task. However, it is a skill that you CAN develop if you do the following:

    1. BUILD a strong grammar foundation
  • Do grammar exercises
  • Read books on grammar
  • Write sentences using your own words
    2. READ a lot to develop a wide vocabulary
  • Study how the words are used
  • Use a dictionary to learn the meaning of new words
    3. WRITE every day
  • Keep a little notebook of interesting phrases or expression that you come across in your reading
  • Observe the people you meet, things you hear and see and write about them.
